“Using Biomarkers to Accelerate Oncology Clinical Development”
Dr. Michael Shi, Senior Director of Oncology Biomarkers in Oncology Translational Medicine, Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corp.
Abstract: Biomarker-based drug development has already been proven to be a successful strategy in the development of novel anticancer drugs such as Gleevec®. This talk will discuss the application of biomarkers in developing targeted therapeutics and address the following key challenges and investment opportunities:
- To verify the impact of novel drugs on targets/pathways by
monitoring pharmacodynamic biomarkers
- To evaluate molecular response as an early clinical efficacy read-out
- To increase drug development predictability
- To give the right drug to the right patients at the optimal dos
